Ipsy glam bag- June 2013

July 6, 2013, 0 Comments

It was pretty awesome to get home from vacation to find a package from Ipsy…my June bag had arrived! Now, they didn’t send everything that was supposed to be sent. I contacted them about it and they quickly sent what was missing, just got it a few days ago. So here’s a review on the things I got, pictures, swatches and a little note. I want to share my opinion ’cause me personally I like to view a different reviews on products before deciding to purchase them, so I hope this can be helpful! 😉

Ipsy - June 2013

On to the products!

Cailyn Gel Eyeliner

This is the first time I hear about this brand. I love using eyeliner, and even when I don’t do a full makeup I’ll probably have eyeliner and mascara on. I got the shade “Iron” which is like a charcoal grey. I have other gel liners, that I love, so I was looking forward to trying a different brand. My initial reaction when I tried it- blah. The color feels a bit translucent and a bit too shimmery for my taste. It does stay on, and doesn’t smudge on the eyes, which is a good thing! This normally retails for about $21 on their website. We did get a full size product, so that’s cool! Just with this product I got more than my $10 worth in this months bag! Something I really like was the brush it came with. I like that it’s integrated with the product so I won’t loose it as easily. I’ll probably use it ’cause I have it, but I would not buy it. Why? I think a more affordable version, and in my opinion better (has more pigment, more creamy) is Maybelline’s EyeStudio Gel Liner (usually retails for less than $10 and is often on sale at Walgreens or CVS- you can find it on Amazon as well). Here’s a side by side comparison (Maybelline in shade “Charcoal”)
Maybelline Eye Studio vs Cailyn Gel Eyeliner
As you can see, the EyeStudio is a bit more creamy and rich in color. This will continue to be my choice of gel eyeliners for now. I have it in shades “Blackest Black,” “Eggplant,” and “Charcoal.”

Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter Crayon

This is the product that was missing from my bag! I’m glad they responded quickly and sent a replacement. So two things with this, 1) I’ve never heard of this brand, 2) I’ve never used this kind of product before. So I was excited to see what it is and how to make use of it. The texture of this is very creamy, and it blends well. It can be used as a highlighter on your brow bone (helps add dept to your face). You could also use it under your eyes, or as a concealer if you’re more fair skinned. I usually just use a light eyeshadow color to highlight my brow bone, but I’ll probably give this more of a try and use it.

Starlooks Lip Liner

One of the things I usually don’t wear is lipstick and therefor have never really used a lip liner. I’m trying to explore different makeup and stuff so I was open to try this. However, this color is just so blah! It looks so pale, and it really does nothing for your lips. Will I use this? Not gonna happen. Will I give up on lipliners? No, not yet. I’d like to try a different shade.

NYX Mosaic Powder

NYX Mosaic Powder

NYX is a brand I’ve heard of a few times. Haven’t really tried many of their stuff before. So far, I’m liking it. This is more of a bronzer though it can be  used as a blush also. I like the shade “Café”, I like the texture and the feel of it. I’ve already used it a few times, and will more than likely continue to use it. I was impress, so I actually got a few other products from NYX, I’ll write about them on another occasion. I would probably purchase this in the future, in other shades as well. Also, NYX is pretty affordable so I’ll be getting more in the future. You can get a discount on their products from their site, use code IPSY15 for 15% off any product on their site, or code IPSYCHEEKS for 40% off their “Tango with Bronzing Powder.”

J.cat Sparkling Cream Palette

Glitter anyone?? This is SOOOOO glittery! I doubt I’ll use this much…maybe for a play or who knows. Of all the shades, I really like the gold, I’ll probably use that more often. A word of warning, it really has a lot of glitter, a LOT! It’ll fall everywhere, and it’s probably not a good idea to use it in your eyes, if you do, just be cautious with it. Also, I went to their site and there are some other cool colors. I think these could come in handy for theater makeup, or shows. Right now you can get a 25% discount on your whole order with the code IPSYLOVE. They have very affordable prices, so it’s worth to check out!

That’s all for this Ipsy Glam Bag. What are your thoughts? Suggestions? 🙂
